Akinola Davies, Frances Corner, Simon Landrein and Yukai Du

French illustrator Simon Landrein is a master of the cheeky comic. His pop-inspired illustrations reference Roy Lichtenstein (with a lot more rude bits) and his animations are not only retina-boggling but also full to the brim with sauciness. The London-based creative will be telling us about the process behind hismusic videoforEarthquakerby Coco Banana.

Filmmaker Akinola Davies will be talking about his collaboration with photographer Ruth Ossai and stylist Ibrahim Kamara on afilm for Kenzo, namedGidi Gidi Bu Ugwu Ze, Unity is Strength. Capturing a beauty pageant starring Nigerian Igbo youth, the film celebrates the varied nuances within Nigerian traditions and African culture as a whole, from hairstyles to familiar icons of day-to-day life, in an authentic and beautiful way.

Animator Yukai Du creates vibrant and intricate illustrated animations for all kinds of stories. Her back catalogue of work for Ted-Ed is particularly wondrous, visualising lessons on plant communication and self-driving cars, but she’ll be delving more into the process for her latest,How small are we in the scale of the universe– a short about the Hubble telescope.

We’re excited to also welcome Professor Frances Corner OBE, head of the London College of Fashion, UAL to elaborate on heropinion piecefor It’s Nice That on how fashion can be political. “Now is the time to become politically active” she says, and she’ll be talking about the ways in which the industry is doing so, and how the creative sector can make a difference.
