As we’ve settled back into our daily routines after the excitement of the new year, Nicer Tuesdays is back with another evening of stimulating talks around creativity.

Taking place on 26 February, our second instalment of talks for this year sees graphic designer and It’s Nice That favourite Craig Oldham take to the stage. We also welcome visual artist Rhea Dillon and witty stop-motion animator Anna Malin Mantzaris. They will also be joined by the illustrator Alex Jenkins who never fails to stir a few laughs with his satirical cartoons and altogether, these four creatives will talk us through their work at east London’s Oval Space later this month.

Whether it’s photography, film, casting or even writing, Rhea Dillon’s multi-disciplinary practice chops and changes, but always communicates. Having worked with Nike, ShowStudio and Riposte previously, Rhea recently made a film called Process exploring the misunderstood particularities of afro upkeep. The artful film combines image and sound to “open up the sensory experiences of the hair rituals of a black person from start to finish” and Rhea will provide us with an insight into the process of the expressive film.

From The Office of Craig Oldham, the main man himself has crafted a name in the graphic design industry. As the creative director of Rough Trade Books, Craig often designs for print amidst working in many other disciplines including film, curation, websites and writing. Under his direction, Rough Trade Books continues to champion the independent spirit of its sister company Rough Trade Records. He’s also produced work for the likes of Manchester City FC and in 2011, he rebranded the Brit Awards with Vivienne Westwood.

In his latest project, Craig has designed and edited the first book of a new series from Rough Trade Books. TitledThey Live: A Visual and Cultural Awakening,the book is a celebration of the cult film and features work from the likes of Jenny Holzer, Barbara Kruger and the Guerrilla Girls. In his talk, Craig will give us some more insight into the creation and design of the new book.

In her recent filmEnough, Anna Malin Mantzaris takes those infuriating moments from everyday life that make you want to chuck your computer out the window, and extends it into a hilarious stop-motion animation. The film is sparked by Anna’s move to London to study animation at the RCA. The animation short reveals what our world would look like if we all did, what we really want to do deep down. Told through the painstaking stop-motion process, Anna will walk us through some intimate details of the animation process; from puppet building to shooting Enough frame-by-frame.

Alex Jenkins is known for his weird and wonderful comics that satirise everyday experiences. Regular It’s Nice That readers won’t have missed our latest write-up of the comedic illustrations that reminded us of the spot popping, alarm ignoring, procrastinating people that we really are. The South-London based illustrator will talks us through some of his most recent work and how he achieves that “punchy or humorous” moment in the final frame.
